For many years, university-industry collaboration focused on the dynamics of commercialisation, neglecting activities with less tangible outcomes but with equally relevant impact. In this regard, this brief explores the various forms of university engagement, examining the core processes that drive their impact: technology transfer, knowledge transfer and valorisation. By understanding these processes, university leaders and staff can develop strategies and mechanisms that seek to build long-term relationships between universities and industry (UIC), while enhancing the contribution of both institutions to society through their engagement with different stakeholders.
